HOLBOX EXCURSION
Doing nothing is the watchword on Holbox island. Set off on an excursion to discover Holbox, its "hippie" vibe downtown, its fine sand beaches and the observation of flamingos, pelicans and the local wildlife.
Departure is around 7:30 am from your hotel heading toward Chiquilá for a roughly 2.5-hour drive, followed by boarding a small private boat reserved for our group.
Yalahau Cenote
We will make a first stop at the Yalahau cenote, or ojo de agua, a natural freshwater well offering a superb view over the jungle. The little extra? A tower offers a panoramic view.
A second stop is planned at Bird Island, a true haven of nature home to more than 150 bird species (flamingos, herons, frigatebirds). The flamingos at Holbox are easily observed in their natural habitat.
Punta Mosquito
Then, off to Punta Mosquito, at the north of Holbox island, where free time awaits you to enjoy the fine sand and admire the different shades of blue as far as the eye can see.
We will then share a local meal on the water, including ceviche, guacamole, sodas and beer.
Discovering Holbox Island
After lunch, you will enjoy free time on Holbox island to visit the downtown, explore the alleys and admire the murals.
In the late afternoon your private transfer takes you back to your hotel.

Holbox Excursion: Discover Mexico's Paradise Island
The Holbox excursion is one of the most beautiful experiences to enjoy during a stay in Mexico. This preserved island, located at the north of the Yucatán Peninsula, is a true biodiversity sanctuary: flamingos, pelicans, rays, whale sharks (in season) and turquoise waters of exceptional clarity.
Accessible only by ferry from Chiquilá, Holbox is a car-free island where time seems to stand still. Its white sand beaches, spectacular sunsets and bohemian atmosphere make it a favorite destination for travelers.
What to Do in Holbox: The Must-Sees
During your Holbox excursion, discover Punta Mosquito where flamingos gather in the shallow lagoons. Explore the Yalahau cenote, a natural freshwater spring in the heart of the mangrove, ideal for a refreshing swim.
The island is also renowned for its bioluminescence — a natural phenomenon where plankton lights up the water at night, creating a magical spectacle. Our excursion includes transport from Playa del Carmen, the ferry, the island tour and a fresh seafood lunch.
How to Get to Holbox from Playa del Carmen
To get to Holbox from Playa del Carmen, allow about 3 hours of driving to the port of Chiquilá, then a 25-minute ferry. Our all-inclusive excursion handles all the logistics: pickup at your hotel, air-conditioned transport, ferry tickets and a French-speaking guide.
We recommend this excursion as a full day of relaxation, perfect to alternate with the more active days of diving or archaeological visits.
